Second Day, Second Bronze for Canada at the CWG

Sept. 17 1998

Today's athletics competition at the Commonwealth Games provided the second bronze medal of the games when Jason Tunks, going in as the gold medal favourite, threw 62.22m for the bronze in men's discus. Tunks was visibly disapointed but has ended the men's discus drought of the last Commonwealth Games. It is unsure if his heel was still bothering him during the competition. Eric Forshaw finished ninth with a toss of 53.50m. In the Decathlon, Mike Smith threw 18.03m in the shot to set a new world record in the decathlon shot and possibly has thrown farther than any other decathlete in or out of a decathlon competition. Our only two other throwers left in the competition are Erin Bevins in mens's javelin that will go on Sunday and John Stoikos in men's hammer which will go on Saturday.
