Assistant Coach Opening - ThrowsOct. 20 1998SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY, in Fairfield, Connecticut has a part-time assistant track and field coach opening for the 1998-99 school year. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for overseeing the training and preparation of our men's and women's throwers. The position requires hands-on coaching primarily, with some limited recruiting and administrative duties. Candidates with intercollegiate throwing experience and a bachelor's degree at a minimum are preferred, but others will be considered. Previous coaching experience is, of course, a plus. Sacred Heart University is currently a NCAA Division Two member. We will be moving to Division One and joining the Northeast Conference in the fall of 1999. We conduct a well-rounded, comprehensive track and field/cross country program. Current staff include a full-time head coach who works primarily with distance and middle distance runners, and four assistants whose duties break down upon the following lines: sprints/hurdles; jumps; throws; and pole vault/multi-events. Our current throws coach is leaving us to pursue a doctorate full-time. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to break into coaching, or move-up from the high school coaching ranks. In the brief four-year history of Sacred Heart's track and field program the throws have been our strength and we return a talented group of athletes for our next throws coach to work with.
