Come practice with the best. Open to all coaches and athletes of all ages and levels of skill development. There will be six sessions scheduled to allow the coach and athlete to maximize this opportunity by attending both the shot and javelin sessions aimed at their skill level.

AGENDA

Please NOTE: You will be able to attend only 1 seession per time period.

9:00 am to 12:00 pm

SESSION I - Developmental Javelin - Perfect for the new and the developing thrower and coach. Learn the basics and how to coach them. Tom will introduce the principles of the throw and the steps to best coach the javelin and how to recognize technical faults and how to correct them. Topics: Introduction to the javelin which will include the grip, the starting position, the draw back, the throw, the release, target throwing, developing motion and skills, beginning drills and exercises to reinforce the correct throwing motion, general physical fitness.

SESSION II -Intermediate/Advance Shot Put (with emphasis on the rotational style) - for the more advanced coach and athlete who have provincial/national experience. Topics: Pivot drills to the power position, walking into the throwing position with a rotation aspect, drills associated with the middle position rotation, adding rhythm to the South African starting position for rotational throwing, using the full rotary technique/drills to reinforce balance positions in rotary throwing, drills to improve rhythm of rotary throwing, the complete throw

Lunch Break

1:00 pm to 4:00pm

SESSION III - Advanced Javelin - for the more advanced coach and athlete who have provincial/national experience. Building upon the athletes and coaches knowledge of the event, Tom will be progressing into more advanced programs as athletes skills improve with their development.Topics: Reinforcing the correct basic elements (the starting position, draw back), the throw, the release, developing motion & skills, standing throw, one step throw, three step throw, five step throw, the full approach, progression assessment, program evaluation.

SESSION IV - Developmental Shot Put - for the new and developing thrower and coach. Topics: In this session, Coach Dolegiewicz will take you through the following: "First things first" (the grip, release, Proper position from the standing throw), drill sequence to ensure that proper lift & release happens, proper standing throw sequence, adding rhythm to the standing throw, Introduction to the glide, Putting it all together - glide & rotational style

4:30 to 6:00 pm

SESSION V - Javelin Chalk Talk - Ask "The Coach" and get some training tips for throwing the javelin. An in-depth look at some of the topics touched upon in the earlier sessions.Topics: Conditioning/fitness, flexibility, speed/agility, weight training, plyometrics, injury prevention, mental preparation, medicine balls/weight balls

SESSION VI - Shot Chalk Talk - Ask "The Coach" and get some training tips for throwing the shot. An in-depth look at some of the topics touched upon in the earlier sessions.Topics: Conditioning/fitness, flexibility, speed/agility, training tips for the weight training lifts and periodization and variable load patterns, movements and exercises that improve ballistic strength or explosive ability.

COSTS:
Please choose only 1 session per time period.
Pre register: $50.00 per session or $75.00 for two. Sign up for two sessions and get the chalk talk session of your choice FREE! At the door: $75.00 per session.
