Lianne Coombe Signs with SMU!

Laurel Creek Track Club, junior thrower, Lianne Coombe has decide to accept a full athletic scholarship to attend Soutern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas next fall. Coombe who is in her last year of high school in Simcoe, Ont., has been heavily recruited by US universities and feels very fortunate to have been presented with these opporunities. Both she and her parents would like to thank all those coaches who have shown interest in her for their time.

Coombe, who has only been throwing seriously for the last year and half trains under the direction of Richard Parkinson of the Kitchener/Waterlo based Laurel Creek Track Club. Lianne met with considerable sucess last year, being ranked the #1 junior women's shot both in indoors and outdoors and winning the shot at both the OFSSA and the Canadian Junior Championships. Othe highlights for Lianne this past year were being ranked second in the discus and placing fifth in her first appearence at the Canadian National Championships. Lianne also was a member of the Canadian junior Team which traveled to the Grand Cayman Islands for a series of dual meets.

Coombe looks forward to training with Dave Wollman (Teri and Jason Tunks coach) and the rest of the SMU throwing squad. Coombe intends to study biology with the possiblities of attending Chiropractic college upon graduation.
