Canadian Records for Hammer ThrowersMay 25 1999At recent meets two new Canadian records in the women's hammer were established. Michelle Fournier competing at the SEC championships surpassed the Canadian record with a throw of 62.88. This broke Caroline Wittrin's record of 62.07 which was set in August last summer. On the heels of her record setting performance, she was also named as one of three USC athletes named to the GTE Academic All-District III Spring At-Large team Fournier, an All-American, has maintained a 3.95 gpa while working on her MBA. Brad Snyder also remains undefeate against collegians when retained his SEC Championships title. Meanwhile Jennifer Joyce, a member of the 1998 World Junior team broke her old Canadian Junior record by over 2 meters when she threw 58.84 at the Pac-10 Championships where she finished second. This mark also moves her into 7th spot in the World Junior Rankings. At the WAC championships, Robin Lyons moved into second place in the Fairlee National Throws Rankings when she threw 62.78 to finish second in the women's hammer and then finished third in discus with a toss of 52.53. At the Big 12 Championships, Scott Russell won the men's hammer with a throw of 59.14 ahead of Scott Warren. In javelin, Warren returned the favour by topping Russell with a toss of 76.64 while Russell threw 74.96. He was also fourth in discus with 52.76, and ninth in shot with 16.45. In Women's javelin, Andrea Bulat was fifth with a throw of 47.02. There will now be no less than 11 Canadian throwers competing at the NCAA championships to be held in Boise Idaho on June 4-6.
