Women's Hammer Receives Official Sanction

May 11 1998

Primo Nebiolo said in an official IAAF press release May 7 1998, "I am pleased to announce that two new events have been added to our programme at the World Championships in Seville, in 1999 - the women's pole vault and hammer throw - and these will also be included in the Olympic Programme in Sydney the following year, giving still more women athletes the possibility to compete on a level footing with their male counterparts."

This sets the stage for Canadian Women Hammer Throwers to continue their drive towards world class throws and a chance to finally compete at the Olympics. Women's hammer has been contested at the Pan Am games and later this summer will be part of the Commonwealth Games. It is also to be included in the GoodWill Games this summer.
