Gervais, Lyons Lead National Throws ResultsMay 02 2000This past week of results served as another step upwards for Jason Gervais and Robin Lyons as they both had big results to send them up the NCAA rankings. Gervais broke the Wyoming school recrod on his way to winning the men's discus at the Drake Relays. His throw of 62.50 moved him into fifth spot in the NCAA rankings. Earlier in the week Gervais also had a personal best in the hammer when he threw 64.72 to move him into thirteenth in the NCAA. "I was really pleased and excited about Jason's performance," said head coach Larry Judge. "To perform that well in a meet of this magnitude is a real achievement. This shows that Jason is really coming on and hopefully this will improve his confidence as we move towards the end of the season." Meanwhile, All-American Robin Lyons won the women's discus at the Drake Relays on Saturday, also breaking the University of Wyoming school record. Lyons throw of 54.68 moved her into fifth in the NCAA rankings as well. Lyons then went on to establish a personal best in the hammer and nearly won this event as well if it weren't for Melissa Price's last round throw. "I was real pleased with Robin's outstanding double," said head coach Larry Judge. "It was an excellent all-around day for Robin. There was some top-notch competition with some of the best throwers in the nation here." Nicole Chimko was fifth in the women's discus with a throw of 49.26 and Mary LeJour was sixteenth with 43.14.
