Chimko Tops NCAA Javelin Rankings

At the Bayou Classic at Rice University, Nicole Chimko, a junior at the University of Minnesota took over top spot in the NCAA with a toss of 54.92. This throw was a personal best for Chimko who was a bronze medalist at the 1998 NCAA championships with a personal best of 53.92m. Chimko was also 3rd in discus with 47.34m and 4th in shot with a toss of 12.76m

Competing at the Springtime Invitational at the University of Texas-El Paso, Liz Toman, attending Colorado State, set another personal best in the discus with a Fairlee National Rankings topper of 51.78m. This throw was good enough for second place to teammate Shelly Borrman who blasted a 56.10m throw. This was only Toman's third competition in the event and is looking very strong as she also established a new Laurel Creek Track Club senior/open club record with this throw.

Meanwhile, in Carbondale Illinois where the Southern Illinois University track and field teams hosted the SIU Collegiate Track and Field Series, Peter Juszcyk paced the men's team establishing a new school record in the javelin with a toss of 68.54 (224-10). The toss broke Ron Harrer's 1988 mark of 67.86 (222-8). Juszcyk's throwalso provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Boise, Idaho from June 2-5. This meet is part of the U.S. Collegiate Track & Field Series which focuses on renewing the interest of Collegiate track and field. The series established by the U.S. Track Coaches Association in 1998, organizes several collegiate track meets around the country consisting of 2-4 teams in head-to-head competition.

At the Purdue Open Aaron Larson finished 5th in shot with 16.05m, 9th in hammer 46.70, and 10th in discus with 41.94. Laurie Perrie was also 2nd in shot put with 12.71 and 4th in discus with a mark of 42.48.

At the University of Nebraska at Kearney open meet, Jason Gervais established a mark that now tops the Fairlee National Rankings with a throw of 61.91 to win the men's discus. Gervais also won the shot with 17.12 and the hammer with 61.19m. Derek Woodske also competed and finished 3rd in shot put with a new personal best of 15.76m. Andrew Mcdonough easily won the javelin at this meet with a throw of 71.75m

At the Raleigh Relays at the North Carolina State University , Michelle Fournier was 2nd in hammer with 57.51m, 3rd in shot with 14.14 and 6th in discus with 47.40. Ruth Conlon opened her outdoor season at this meet with a throw of 54.79m to finish 5th.

At the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Tempe Arizona, Shaun Cormier was 6th in shot with a throw of 15.84m. Cormier was also 8th in hammer with a throw of 50.96.

Meanwhile in California, Jennifer Joyce finished 5th in hammer with a toss of 50.68m and 7th in discus with 43.72m.
