School Record for Russell

Three Time NCAA Champ Snyder
Competing at the Emporia State University Spring Twilight Scott Russell continued his record setting sophomore campaign by breaking a 28 year old Kansas record. Russell threw the hammer out to 65.12. The school record was previously held by Bill Penney at the 1971 Central Collegiate with a mark of 61.60m. It was also Penney's 28 year old school record in the 35-pound weight throw that Russell outdistanced as a freshman when he recorded a mark of 19.47m at the 1998 Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa. Russell also won the shot with a toss of 17.15. Andrea Bulat threw 44.33m to finish seoncd in the javelin at this meet. On Saturday, competing at the Dr. Pepper/Baylor Invitational, Russell won both the javelin and discus with throws of 66.93 and 53.28 respectively. Caroline Larose won the shot at this event with a toss of 14.22m and also placed 11thand 12th in the javelin and discus respectively.

Robin Lyons and Mary Lejour led the way for the Wyoming women's throwers when the competed against Colorado State, Western State College, and University of Northern Colorado in a USATF Coach Association Collegiate Track Series Meet. Lyons won the hammer with a personal best toss of 59.94m and finished second in the discus with a seasons best of 49.98m. LeJour was third in the hammer with a personal best of 49.72 and finished second in the javelin with a toss of 35.13m and finished 4th in the discus with 44.96m. She also finished 6th in the shot with 12.27m.

At the Weems Baskin track meet three-time NCAA Champion Brad Snyder continued his domination winning the shot put with a throw of 19.70m, good enough for an NCAA automatic mark. Michelle Fournier was 2nd in the hammer with a personal best of 59.84m, 2nd in discus with 50.26m and 2nd in shot put with 14.28m. Meanwhile at the Long Beach Classic, Kris Watson threw 50.98m in the discus to finish 2nd. Also at the Long Beach Classic Dan Ralph, attending the University of Iowa threw62.14m to win the men's javelin. At the Big Foot Open in Spokane, Joe Woodske threw 45.90m in hammer. This was Woodske's first time throwing hammer in a competition and had less than half a dozen practices with the implement before the meet. Peter Juzcksiac won the Florida State Relays javelin with a toss of 67.40m. At the ASU/USTCA Invitational Nils Olivetto won the men's hammer with a throw of 54.16m.

At the Cal-UCLA-Washington-UC Irvine track and field quadrangular, Jennifer Joyce finished second in the hammer with 53.84m, 7th in shot with 10.53,5th in javelin with 23.30m, and in discus she finished5th with 42.20m. Also competing at this meet, Garret Collier finished third in men's hammer with 53.98, and in discus finished 7th with 47.69m
