Kajaks Canadian Record DuoJune 22 1998Two of Vancouver Kajaks athletes established new Canadian records this past weekend, both in women's hammer. competing at the Langley Pacific Invitational Track Meet, Caroline Wittrin improved upon her Canadian record for the second time this season and became the first Canadian woman over the elusive 60m barrier. Wittrin threw 60.00m. Jennifer Joyce, Wittrin's clubmate, also established a record in women's hammer throw for juniors by throwing 52.62 and breaking Michelle Fournier's record of 52.22m set in 1996. Both athletes will be in action this weekend at the Jack Brow Memorial meet. This will be the first time this season that some of the top female hammer throwers in the country will face each other. Patti Pilsner-Steinke, presently ranked second in the Canadian Foot Locker National Throws Rankings, will have her first real test of the season when she meets up against Wittrin in Kelowna. This may prove to be the deepest quality women's hammer meet outside of the National Championships on Canadian soil this season.
