Jennifer Joyce warms up before going on to throw her new Canadian Junior Record.
The annual Jack Brow Memorial meet in Kelowna this past weekend proved to be a superb weekend for throwers Jennifer Joyce and Dylan Armstrong. Joyce set her second Canadian Junior Record in consecutive weekends when she threw 52.98 to win the junior women's hammer. This broke her week old mark of 52.62 set at the Langley Pacific Invitational. Finishing 2nd was Kajaks clubmate Nikki Pawluk with a throw of 41.08 and third was Jennifer Padriano, also of the Kajaks, with a toss of 37.16 Meanwhile Armstrong, still a juvenile, was named field event athlete of the meet for his strong performances in multiple events. Armstrong surpassed the World Junior Championships minimum standard of 60.00m when he threw 61.40m with the 16lb hammer. This was his first competition ever with the 16lb hammer and had very little difficulty with the transition. Look for bigger throws this season from him with this implement. Garret Collier was 2nd with a throw of 56.26m and Murray Heber was 3rd with a throw of 49.04. Armstrong then went on to win the juvenile boys discus throw with 48.28, juvenile boys shot put - 16.26m and the Junior boys shot put - 14.24m. In junior boys shot finishing 2nd was Nick Hamon with 13.64m and 3rd was Charles Bailey with 13.25m.
