It has been a long time since we have had significant public and media attention on the funding of
amateur sport in Canada. The release of the Sub-committee report gives us a tremendous opportunity to
influence public support and government funding of amateur sport. The report is the culmination of a year
long study on the economic impact of sport in Canada. While much of the media attention prior to and
since the release of the report has focused on the professional realm of sport, the most significant analysis
in the report deals with the amateur side of sport. We must not allow the "baby to be thrown out with the
bath water". The amateur sport sector needs to have its voice heard if it believes that the Mills report is
worth supporting. To sit idly by and not comment would be missing a unique opportunity to advance sport
development in Canada and increase funding for sport.
In order to properly position the amateur sport community, here's how youand/or your organization can assist:
1.sign-on to this letter of support. This special e-mail letter (bilingual) will be sent directly to all Members of Parliament (including the federal cabinet).
2.encourage all of your members to sign-on and support the report through this e-mail letter.
