Lyons Increases National RecordJanuary 25 2000Robin Lyons once again upped her Canadaian Naitional Record in the women's weight throw with her performance at the University of Wyoming Cowboy/Cowgirl Classic this past Saturday. Lyons threw 21.31 to increase her national record by 22cm and was only a quarter inch from going over 70 feet for the first time. This performance now leaves her in sole posession of the third best throw in collegiate history and she sits alone at the top of the JumpStart Athletics Canadian Indoor Rankings. At the same meet, Jason Gervais won the 35lb weight with a toss of 22.16 while Derek Woodske was second with 21.72. These results move them to third and fourth in the NCAA rankings. In shot, Gervais also finished on top with a toss of 18.55 while in women's shot put two Canadians battled it out for first. Liz Toman of Colorado State University had a perso9nal best of 15.37 to finish first while Marie Le Jour threw 14.93 to finish second. On Friday evenining Lejour also had a personal best in the weight with a toss of 18.02. Lejour's fiancee Andrew McDonagh also a had a personal best in the weight with a throw of 16.98. McDonagh also finished third in shot with a best of 14.03. Other US meets with Canadians in them had Lianne Coombe finshing second in the weight throw at the Oklahoma Track Classic with a throw of 16.19 while at the Jerry Martin Invitational at Eastern Washington University Joe Woodske and Kristof Kipp continued their domination of the NJCAA rankings. Woodske threw 17.03 to finish fourth at the meet while Kipp was fifth with a personal best of 16.56. Crystal smith, also of North Idaho College was sixth with 14.23. At the University of Houston Indoor Opener Dave Matson threw 14.89 in the shot to finish eighth. At the Bowling Green Invitational Greg Heubner continued to hold top spot in the Canadian CIAU throws rankings with a put of 15.57. In Canadian meets, Michael MacDonald of the University of Calgary won the shot at the Golden Bear Open with a throw of 14.28 while Grant Chapman was second with 13.81 and Inoke Fesaitu was third with 13.67. In weight, Ian Maplethorpe set a new meet record of 19.58 enroute to his win while Geoff Dolan of the University of Lethrbridge leapt to the top of the CIAU rankings with a second place throw of 16.30. Chapman had a personal best toss of 14.71 to capture third and move to second spot in the CIAU rankings. On the women's side heptathlete kim Vanderhoek bested Alison Mohn with a throw of 12.37 in shot. Mohn threw 11.81 while Cora Andreas of the University of Saskatchewan was third. In weight, Erin Riste of the Chinook Track Club established another provincial record on her way to winning the weight throw. Her result of 14.41 topped Jennifer Brown and Cora Andreas who threw 13.27 and 12.55 respectively. At the McGill Invitational Dominique Bilodeau threw 13.04 to win the shot competition while Nicole Clarke of Queen's took third with 12.41. Clarke then won the weight with a mark of 14.10. Mike Melaney edged out Mac Beaton to win the men's shot with a toss of 14.10 and Corey Trudeau, also of Queen's was third with 13.84. Geof Wignall of Queen's won the weight with a throw of 14.45 which moved him into third spot in the CIAU rankings.
