Canadian Record for Lyons

January 11 2000

Robin Lyons opened the new century with an outstanding performance and a Canadian record in the women's weight throw. Competing at the Kansas invitational Lyons bettered her Canadian record from last indoor season by 16cm with a toss of 21.09 that placed her third in the meet. This mark also moves Robin onto the top of the JumpStart Athletics Canadian Indoor Rankings. Dawn Ellerbe of the US finished first with 23.06 which is a US record and World best mark. Finishing second was Jessica Cross with a throw of 22.33. Mary LeJour finished 8th with 17.05. Lejour then finished 5th in the shot with a put of 14.39 while Lyons was 9th with 13.41. At the Windsor Legion Open Courtney Bovin of the University of Windsor won the shot put with a throw of 13.33 while Tanya Sawyers, also of Windsor, was second with 12.30 and Andrea karpala of the Windsor Legion was third with 11.33. On the mens side Greg Heubner of the University of Windsor threw 14.46 to win the event and head to the top of the CIAU rankings. Nike Second Annual Sharon Anderson Memorial in Toronto Tina MacDonald of the University of Toronto lept to the top of the CIAU rankings with win in the shot put and a throw of 15.23. Liz Toman, competing for Colorado State and is a member of the newly formed SISU Track club, finished second with a throw of 14.76. Finishing third was Caroline Larose of Ottawa with a throw of 13.75. On the men's side, Brian McPhee threw 14.81 to win while Mike Nolan of Windsor was second with 14.81 and Jack Brennan was third with 13.00.
