Top Ranked Woodske throwing the weight
Derek Woodkse claimed one of Canadian indoor track's oldest records on Saturday Feb 13. Competing at the Robert Shine Invitational at War Memorial Fieldhouse in Wyoming, Woodkse surpassed the old Canadian record in men's weight throw four times and ended with a throw of 22.76m to surpass Scott Nielson's record by almost a metre. Nielson threw 21.78 in 1978 and still holds the Canadian outdoor record in men's hammer. This mark will also stand as a new American Collegiate Record which Kevin Mannon also threw in this meet. Woodske finished second as he had a lower second throw than Mannon did (22.72 to 22.18). This distance also puts Mannon and Woodske as the 10th farthest throw ever in the world in the 35lb weight. Their series were as follows: Woodske (21.10, 22.76, foul, 21.48, 22.12 and 22.18) Mannon (22.15, 22.76, 22.40, 22.72, 22.28 and foul).
