Bodaglo Extends Lead in CIAU Rankings

Noreena Bodaglo extended her lead in the CIAU Weight Throw Rankings when her throw at the Cargill games extended out to 16.43. Bodaglo, CIAU National Champion fin 1999 in the weight, also finished second in the shot with a trhow of 12.68. Jill Ryback led the shot competitors with a toss of 13.06 while Avril McCann was third with 11.91. In weight, Alison Mohn was second with 12.46 while Rovin Bron of Saskatchewan was third with 12.37. In men's action at the Cargill Extravaganza , Grant Chapman won the weight throw with a toss of 14.21 while Doug Medernach was second with 13.49 and Daniel Enns of Manitoba was third with 12.70. In shot Nick Pauletto of the Flying M won the event with a put of 16.15. Grant Chapman finished second with a personal best mark of 14.66 while Mike Mason of the University of Manitoba was third with 12.65.

At the Fed. Quebecoise D'Athletisme Champ Meet CLASSIQUE D'HIVER COCH at the CENTRE CLAUDE-ROBILLARD in women's shot put Dominique Bilodeau led the way with a performance of 13.16. Melanie Guy was second with 12.43 and Karine Lamontagne was third with 10.61. Dan Green of the Ottawa Lions won the mens event with a throw of 13.69 while France Gagne was second with 12.78. In weight throw, Emil Muller of Corsaire Chaparal threw 16.81 to tie the national best for 60-65 year olds in the weight to pace the competition while James Findley was second with 12.34 and France Gagne was third with 11.81. Muller threw the 20lb weight while the other competitors threw the 35lb weight.

In other noteable Canadian action Greg Huebner, who sits atop the CIAU shot rankings, threw 15.61 to finish seventh at the Kent State Invitational.

In NCAA action at Idaho State University Robin Lyons remains undefeated against collegians after sh handily won the weight throw over Maureen Griffin with a toss of 20.62. while Mary Lejour was tenth with a toss of 16.40. In women's shot put Lyons threw 14.27 to finish fourth. In mens action Jason Gervais won the weight throw with a toss of 21.81 after a disappointing throw of 17.84 in the shot which placed him sixth.

At the Houston Indoor Invitational Viktor Mara opened his season after having recovered from recurring back problems and threw 14.75 in shot and then threw 14.86 in the weight. At the Syracuse Invitational Canadian Junior Steven Bedard won the shot put with a personal best throw of 15.49 and catapulted himself to the top of the junior section of the Jumpstart Athletics Canadian National Throws Rankings.
