3rd Canadian Record for Lyons

In NCAA throws action this past weekend Robin Lyons won the Husker Invite and established a new Canadian record in the process. She also edged out Renetta Seiler for the top spot in the NCAA with her toss of 20.93m in the weight throw. It is her third Canadian record of the season and she only has one loss in her NCAA career. Finishing fourth with a throw of 18.38m was Michelle Fournier. Lyons also established a personal best in the shot with a throw of 14.83m to finish fifth. Fournier finished 2cm behind in 6th place with a heave of 14.81m. Finishing in eight spot with a throw of 14.25m was Caroline Larose and in ninth was Liz Toman with 14.17m. Lyons and Fournier now sit in first and second in both the shot and weight Fairlee National Throws Rankings. Also competing at the Husker Invite, Scott Russell was handed his first weight throw defeat of the season when second ranked Kevin Mannon threw 21.60m to Russells 21.16m. Derek Woodske was fourth with 20.62m while Jason Gervais finished eigth with a throw of 19.22m. Brad Snyder won the shot with a season's best of 19.37m but sits second in the NCAA rankings behind John Davis of Houston who has a best of 19.52 in 1999. Finishing 7th was Jason Gervais with 17.61 while Russell struggled with a 16.28 toss to finish eleventh.

At the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa, Nicole Chimko finished fourth with a throw of 14.54m in shot. Meanwhile, Suzanne Gavine threw 13.28m to finish fifth at the Kent State Invitational shot put. At the same meet, Tanya Sawyers was ninth with 12.79m. On the men's side Greg Heubner finished tenth in the shot with 15.15m.

In Canadian action, at the University of Toronto Nike Invitational, Lianne Coombe established a personal best of 14.64m to win the women's shot. She now sits third in the open Fairlee National Throws Rankings and first in the junior Fairlee National Throws Rankings. In second was Christa Goebel with 12.77 and in third was Nicole Clarke with 12.31m. In men's shot, Michael Melaney won the event with a throw of 14.13m. In second was Mike Thorne with 13.63m and third was Stephen Lemieux with 13.42m. In the weight throw at the same event, Dan Parsons won the men's side with a toss of 12.77m while Stephen Lemieux was second with 12.39m and Nick Hewlett was third with 11.55m. On the women's side Nicole Clarke finished first with a personal best of 15.59m in the weight. Hannah Cole was second with 11.41m and Nicole Morrow was third with 8.72m.

At the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Indoor Championships, Jessica Ruddell won the juvenile Girls shot with a throw of 10.43. Margo Doulas was second with 9.89m and Elisha Turney was third with 8.49m. In juvenile men's action, first ranked Trevor Snyder threw 15.07m to lead the event. Adam Dickenson threw 12.76m for second and Nate Wilson was third with 10.86m.
