Provincial Record For McDonagh

April 05 2000

Competing at Colorado State University Andrew McDonagh established a new Quebec provincial record in the mens javelin. McDonagh threw 73.39 to eclipse the old mark of 73.12m set by Louis Brault in 1992. McDonagh has been training well and only started into his technical training but things look on track for a great season. His series was 72.31m, f, f,69.17m, 73.39m , f

Scott Russell has also started his season with two tremendous efforts in the past two weekends. He started the season with a huge 78.96 in javelin at Waco Texas in the Dr. Pepper Invitational capturing that title and finished second in the discus at 52.76m. This past weekend he then threw 76.50 for another great jav effort and then threw 16.37 in shot put and 60.98 in Hammer. Russell redshirted the indoor season in order to facilitate the healing of nagging injuries and the rest has done him well as he felt good throwing and feels very little of his tendonitis.

At the UCLA Quadrangular, held this past Saturday in Los Angeles, California, Jason Gervais led the way with a great effort in discus with a throw of 60.50 to top the competition. He also cruised onto UCLA's home turf and took out the Bruins' bevy of throwers with a winning effort of 18.96 meters inshot put, just off his No. 5-ranked throw of 19.03 from a week ago. Robin Lyons was just short of her seasonal best of 61.94 with a toss of 61.56 to finish second to Christina Tolson who came out on top with a personal best of 62.67 meters

In other results, at the Arizona Jim Click shootout Nicole Chimko won both the javelin and discus throws. Chimko registered NCAA provisional qualifying marks in both the javelin and discus. Her throw 52.10 in the javelin was nearly 5 meters better than her nearest competitor. She also won the discus by more than 10 meters with an effort of 47.24. In a previous meet at the Arizon Triangular two weeks ago Chimko had a personal best throw of 53.76 in discus and a toss of 48.30 in javelin. At the Whitworth College Invite at Spokane Washington Joe Woodske placed fourth in the hammer but was the first place collegiate thrower with a new personal best of 54.50, eclipsing his previous best of 52.38. At Ohio University Sarah Fletcher also had a new personal best in women's hammer as she threw 55.28.
