Joyce Sets Stadium MarkApril 11 2000
In an otherwise quiet weekend of throws results Jennifer Joyce blew away the competition in the women's
division of the hammer throw at the 3rd Annual Brutus Hamilton Invitational with a career and Edwards Stadium record throw of 60.66 (NCAA provisional mark). She previously threw a career best of 59.92 at the Stanford Invitational on March 26 and is now in search of an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 61.00. Garret Collier, also attending Berkeley, had a personal best of 59.72 in men's hammer at the same meet to finish second in the event. Collier had also set a personal best of 58.80 last week at the Arizona Quadrangular. Also at the Brutus Hamilton, Liz Toman finished second in the shot put with a Nation leading toss of 15.37 and then finished third in discus with a toss of 49.70.
National javelin leader Scott Russell of Kansas (Windsor) extended his winning streak to 3-0 over collegians when he ripped a 73.04 (239-7) at the Texas Relays after surpassing 250-0 (76.20) the previous two weekends. Russell also finished 6th in hammer with a season's opening throw of 59.12. Leanne Coombe, attending Southern Methodist University was third overall in the women's shot put with a outdoor personal best toss of 14.48 and then finished 9th overall in the discus with a throw of 42.62. In junior men's javelin results, Tim Bloomfield of Club SISU won his season opener in the middle of an April Snow Storm in Ypsilanti Michigan.
