Snyder, Fournier, Win Big at Clemson

The university of South Carolina rolled into Clemson this last weekend and with the help of two Canadian throwers showed why USC is one of the top schools in the NCAA. South Carolina women's team won the Clemson Five-Way while the Gamecock men's team was third. Brad Snyder extended his outdoor unbeaten streak to 3-0 by winning the shot with a throw of 19.67. Snyder was also third in the discus with 52.96. Meanwhile, Michelle Fournier won the women's hammer with a mark of 60.32, good enough to top the Fairlee National Rankings and to move into third spot in the NCAA rankings. She also won the shot on her last throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.26 that moved her to the top of the Fairlee National Rankings in shot put. The South Carolina track and field teams will host the South Carolina State Collegiate State Championships Saturday, April 10. The meet will begin at Weems Baskin Track and Field at 11 am. The meet, which will feature a number of South Carolina's top collegiate track and field athletes, includes South Carolina, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Morris, South Carolina State, Coastal Carolina, Benedict, Voorhees and Francis Marion.

At the Texas Relays, Scott Russell also had a great meet as he finished 2nd in both the discus and the javelin. Russell threw 69.24m in the javelin to move into first place in the Fairlee National Rankings and threw a personal best 55.33 in discus. Russell also competed in the hammer where he finished 7th with a toss of 59.28. Vicky Webb, now attending Wichita State, was 13th in the javelin with a throw of 37.90.

At the 37th Annual Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA, Dave Matson opened his outdoor campaign in the javelin by finishing third with a throw of 65.52. Matson had earlier opened his outdoor season at the Jim Thorpe Invitational last weekend with a shot put performance of 16.06

The California Men's and women's teams swept the team competition at the UC Davis five-team meet on Saturday. Jennifer Joyce hel;ped the bear by winning the womne's hammer with a throw of 51.10 and was 13th in the discus with a throw of 35.38. Garrett Collier was 2nd in the hammer with 54.97 and 6th in discus with 44.53.

Over the weekend Shaun Cormier was also able to improve on his season's best by throwing 16.77 in the shot and 52.59 in the hammer.
