Location:تتتتتتتت - Foothills Stadium, Calgary, Alberta (3,500 feet altitude) hosted by the University of Calgary Athletic Club (UCAC)


Camp Objectives
To provide a high performance competitive opportunity to elite and developing national and international level athletes under ideal competitive conditions and at altitude.

 

To take advantage of the geographic and timing proximity of the Edmonton Senior National Championships (June 21-23) to provide a series of high performance meets which will be affordable for athletes traveling from the Edmonton Championships.

 

To offer an opportunity for all athletes to improve their personal or seasonal bests; world, national, or provincial rankings; and achieve national or provincial assistance criteria.

 

To foster a healthy international exchange of ideas, educational opportunity and social interaction between the coaches and athletes of Canada, the United States and NACAC Regional Associations.

To offer a competitive opportunity to other athletes attempting to obtain the selection standards for the Commonwealth Games, IAAF World Junior Championships, and NACAC Under-25 Championships prior to the final team selection date of June 30, 2002.

 

Who is invited:

This Athletics Canada National Team Program is open to athletes and coaches from Canada, USA, and NACAC regions who have met the respective entry standards. Please note that camp entry is at the discretion of the Meet Directors.

 

 


Entry Standards for Canadian Athletes:
We offer this opportunity in 2002 to athletes ranked in the top-20 nationally in track events and in the top 10 in field events. The top 10 Juniors in both track and field events are also eligible to compete in this event.

The following Minimum Entry Standards must be obtained or surpassed in 2001/2002. We ask that athletes from the USA contact their respective National Development Chairs (Women & Men) to explore participation and funding questions. Athletes from other countries should contact Athletics Canada directly.

Athletes Camp Fee: $CAN $100.00

There will be no entry fees for these competitions, but rather a camp participation fee, which contributes towards the hosting costs for our group. This fee supports the unlimited event entries, meet hosting expenses and use of the track and weight room for training sessions.

 

Coaches Camp Fee: $CAN $30.00

There will be a coach fee of $30 for the entire camp. This fee supports access to all meets, coach education program and Athletics Canada National Program information sessions. Camp t-shirt and invitation to the coach social scheduled for the evening of Friday June 28 is also included.

 

These fees will be collected at the Camp Registration Desk in Calgary at the CAMP HEADQUARTERS on Monday and Tuesday June 24 and 25 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and during daily meet registration. Cash (CAN Dollars) will only be accepted at this time. No one may compete in this series without proper camp registration.

 

Individual Meet Entry

Meet entries will be conducted at the Foothills Track and Field Stadium the afternoon, the day before each competition from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Athletes can enter as many events as they wish but will then declare their intention to compete 30 minutes prior to the start of each race or field event. Races will then be drawn at the time. All heats on the track will run fast to slow seeded sections.

*A&B runs in track events refer to the first or second run of this event during the same meet. Athletes may choose to participate in both runs (A&B) or only in one run (A or B). This should be indicated at the time of each meet's entry. This does not indicate ability levels. All track events will be grouped as seeded sections. Minor adjustments will be made to the meet schedule depending on number of entries received.

Traveling from the Edmonton Senior National Championships

Athletes who will be attending the Edmonton Senior National Championships (June 21-23) should ideally book their return-home air travel, departing out of Calgary on either June 30th (after 8:00pm) or July 1st (anytime during the day). If you book your return-home air travel departing out of Edmonton, this should be booked for July 1st (only after 1pm).

 

Straight into the Calgary Camp

Athletes traveling straight to Calgary for the camp, should book their air travel in-and-out of Calgary and to arrive June 24 or June 25 and depart June 30 (after 8:00pm) or July 1st (anytime during the day)

 

Ground Transportation Between Calgary and Edmonton ($CANت $25.00)

Bus ground transportation will be provided as follows. There will be a charge of $CAN $25.00 per person, each way. The one-way trip takes less than 3 hours.

This beautiful building consists of a combination of 2 bedroom, 4 bedroom, and studio apartments (mostly 2 bedroom and studios) All of these suites have a living area and have a fridge. The 4 bedroom apartments have 3 showers, and 2 washrooms. The studio and 2 bedroom apartments have 1 full washroom. Please note that telephone or TV are not provided in these suites.

Mon June 24: In Edmonton, buses will be organized departing for Calgary at 11:00 am from the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel (10155 ذ 105th Street, Edmonton, AB, T5J 1E2) Please have your luggage down in the lobby by 10:30am. There will be a fee of $CAN $25.00 per person, one-way for this bus service, payable at the Camp Registration Desk in Calgary at the CAMP HEADQUARTERS upon your arrival. The trip is approximately 3 hours. There will be stop for 20 minutes at the halfway point. Arrival in Calgary will be just after 2:00pm. We arrive at the University of Calgary campus and check into the dorms/Hotels.

Mon July 1:تتت 8:00 am Depart for Edmonton from the CAMP HEADQUARTERS (University of Calgary Residences, Olympus Hall) We will arrive in Edmonton at 11:30 am and we will drop all persons off at the Edmonton airport.


Athletics Canada Funding Support

Carded athletes and Commonwealth Games (pre-selection) Relay Pool Athletes

You will receive full accommodation (plus a daily per diem for meals) in Calgary, (University of Calgary residences). There will be no charge for any ground transportation between Calgary and Edmonton and your camp registration fee will be waived. Athletes who are not eligible for funding at the time of the camp and who then qualify for the Commonwealth Games team during the camp will be reimbursed for expenses as per above.

 

Air travel will be reimbursed for carded athletes only according to the travel funding policy for National Championships for carded athletes (see separate document)

 

In order to receive funding support, all carded athletes must register by the Camp Entry Deadline:

JUNE 10, 2002 (see form below) No exceptions will be made.ت Athletes eligible for funding support who register by the entry deadline will have their accommodation arrangements coordinated for them by Athletics Canada as long as they are staying at the UofC residences.

 

Coaches of Carded Athletes

You will need to book and purchase your own air travel, room and board arrangements. You will also be responsible to pay the camp registration fee of $30.00 CAN. There will be no charge for the ground transportation costs between Calgary and Edmonton and you will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $200 towards your on-site room and board expenses. This expense claim will be processed at the camp and refunded by the end of July. You will need to submit a camp pre-registration form by June 10.
