Meets

Dear Coaches,

Another track season is around the corner. However, so are the Olympic
Games. So this next year will be a big one for many athletes trying to
qualify for the games or just to trying to get fast times or distances
before the trials.

This past year, Hawaii had got into the mix of putting together a meet
that would attract some world class athletes from the mainland. This
meet was actually a youth national meet which included three special
events that featured world class athletes competing for prize money.
The special events were the mens 100 meter dash challenge, won by Jeff
Laynes in 10.16. The mens 110 High Hurdles, won by Dominique Arnold in
13.11. And finally the Womens Hammer throw, won by Amy Palmer with a
204Õ toss. All times were wind legal.

We are planning to add three more special events to the meet.
Currently, we are planning to have the womens 100 hurdles, womens 100
meters, mens & womens long jump, mens hammer & possibly pole vault.
This meet will be held at the War Memorial Stadium on the island of
Maui.
The weather is very much like Sacramento. It averages 80 degrees and
the wind is very favorable for sprinters and jumpers. The track is a
fast track according to the athletes who came out here this past
summer. Our site out here in Hawaii is an ideal site for athletes to
put up some great marks.

We would like to invite some of your athletes out here to Hawaii and
experience what we have to offer now and in the future. We know that
this meet will be a great meet to attend, especially for those who are
looking to get good marks.

There will be prize money given out to the top three finishers:
$1200-First, $500-Second, $300-Third. We know that this may not be a
lot of money that most athletes are used to, but our community is
pulling together to strive for the future in this sport here in
Hawaii. For all athletes that are interested in coming, we will take
care of all lodging expenses and a select few will get airfare taken
care of as well. There are no appearance fees that we can give out at
this time, seeing that this meet is not Nationally sponsored by any big
corporations yet.

We already have quite a bit of athletes interested in coming to the
meet, so please let me know if any of your athletes are interested in
getting in to the meet. If you have any questions, feel free to call
me at 808-872-9799.

The meet is scheduled for June 24th & 25th.
