Duties: Working with the Board of Directors, duties include managing the regular activities of the club in Ottawa including coaching, budgeting, accounting, planning entries and travel as well as athlete, coach and volunteer development. The range of activities is variable and multi-faceted, requiring coaching athletes and coaches, while being the club's permanent staff to interact with the various partners and the local community. Qualifications: A post-secondary education with appropriate elite coaching credentials and club management experience is essential. Computer and accounting knowledge are necessary. Bilingualism would be an asset. The ability to operate within a flexible work week and to travel on a regular basis are also required. Salary and Start Date: The base salary is in the $30,000 range and is negotiable. The ability to start as soon as possible after January 1, 1999 is desirable. The Position The Director of the National Coaching Institute - Toronto is responsible for the development and delivery of programs aimed at improving the quality of high performance coaching. The Director contributes to the development of national coaching programs and standards as a member of the Coaching Association of Canada high performance coaching team, while working within the structure of the National Sport Centre - Toronto to deliver programs to high performance coaches in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Responsibilities Principle responsibilities fall within three major areas: Planning, development and delivery of the National Coaching Institute full-time and part-time diploma program; Development of other NSCT coaching initiatives, such as high performance seminars, professional development for NSCT coaches, administration of a coach employment assistance program, dissemination of sport science information, etc; Contribution to the national programs of the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and the Canadian Professional Coaches Association (CPCA). The successful candidate will be directly responsible for overseeing the training and preparation of our men's and women's throwers. The position requires hands-on coaching primarily, with some limited recruiting and administrative duties. Candidates with intercollegiate throwing experience and a bachelor's degree at a minimum are preferred, but others will be considered. Previous coaching experience is, of course, a plus. Sacred Heart University is currently a NCAA Division Two member. We will be moving to Division One and joining the Northeast Conference in the fall of 1999. We conduct a well-rounded, comprehensive track and field/cross country program. Current staff include a full-time head coach who works primarily with distance and middle distance runners, and four assistants whose duties break down upon the following lines: sprints/hurdles; jumps; throws; and pole vault/multi-events. Our current throws coach is leaving us to pursue a doctorate full-time. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to break into coaching, or move-up from the high school coaching ranks.
