Pre-Selected Athletes - FISU 99 / World Student GamesNov 23 1998Pre-Selected Athletes - FISU 99 / World Student Games As per Athletics Canada FISU Selection Criteria for Speed & Power Group athletes, we are pleased to announce the following list of names that qualify for the 1999 World Student Games hosted in Palma de Mallorca, Spain (July 8-13 / Athletics). The Team will depart on either July 2 or 3 from Toronto (TBA) and will return on July 14 or 15 (TBA). Athletes may be sent home at an earlier date upon the completion of their event if at all possible and particularly if athletes are also members of the 1999 Pan American Games Team. Please refer the Athletics Canada Selection Document for any questions on team selection. The maximum entry for individual events is two. In some cases, pre-selection may have closed further entry consideration. However, where less than two athletes have been nominated and until final proof of student status has been received by the National Office by ALL POTENTIAL TEAM MEMBERS by MAY 1st, 1999, the final selection will occur on June 6. Athletes selected in Stage One who FAIL TO SUBMIT THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION TO THE NATIONAL OFFICE BY MAY 1, WILL BE DESELECTED. NO ATHLETE WILL BE NAMED TO THE TEAM ON JUNE 6, 1999 WITHOUT FIRST COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO THE NATIONAL OFFICE BY MAY 1, 1999 TO BE ELIGIBLE. FUNDING: Athlete travel funding support by Athletics Canada will be announced by February 1st, 1999. We strongly encourage all Stage One Selection Athletes and all potential team athletes to secure some level of funding support. If we can provide you with a reference letter for fund raising, please contact Andy McInnis. The CIAU will pay for on-site accommodations and meals. Uniforms will be provided by Athletics Canada. Therefore, the only cost to team athletes is air travel estimated currently at 1500.00 to 2000.00 dollars. AIR TRAVEL: All air ticket travel will be arranged by Athletics Canada. No other form of travel will be permitted. Athletes will be invoiced for the cost of air travel and will be expected to pay for the travel costs prior to team departure on July 2nd or 3rd, 1999.
