My farthest throw ever was 117. that was last year in junior high, and I broke the junior high's school record with that throw.lately I have been training for the high school's varsity track team and my throwing hasn't been that great and the first day of practice is in a couple weeks!!! does anyone please!!!! have any tips!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm new to the shot put, but I love it. Wanna know how new I am to it, I love the sport, and I've never laid a finger on a shot put. I started throwing javelin for the first time in 1998 at the age of 58. Won gold medal at Colorado Senior Olympics with a throw of 96 feet using 800g javelin. Qualified for National Senior Olympics held in Orlando, FL Disney Wide World of Sports Complex, where 11,900 senior athletes competed in many events. I won 6th place there in Oct. 1999 with a throw of 33.5 meters (110 feet). Gold medal winner threw 40 meters. Doesn't sound like very far, but age takes its toll. Only wish I would have started javelin 40 years earlier!

G'DAY,,,,,,,,,,, (Olympics, Sydney 23rd Sept 2000) Another Gold Medal for Jan Zelezny and Silver for Steve Backley.... both champions of the sport. It's just seems a pity that we only seem to get breif media highlights of heats and finals for one of the oldest Olympic events.

I wonder can anybody out there help? Im researching a series of articles on Irish throwers from way, way back, men such as John J Flanagan, Martin Sheridan, Matt McGrath, Pat Ryan etc. All these guys won gold medals while representing the USA at the Olympics between 1900 and 1920. I live in a town where throwing isn't taken seriously, I went to a regional interschool event where schools sent two people for each event. We had two people for all the events, one being discus. I had not thrown before and was competing against state competitors, I sood up and threw 42 meters and beet the nearest competitor by at lest 10m, I wondering if I should persue this or not.

Hello I like your site, I throw discus, and shot put for my school hear in Maine, I have attended the junior olympics where I had my furthest throws yet, But my throw aren't consistant, one throw may be short , and then the next is twice as far, but I notice that I use the same force and the same movements as the ones before, but they are all different. Conditioning theory has moved on in the last 15 years. I walked onto my college throwing team after never having thrown at all in high school. After three years I threw the hammer 180 feet (54.9 m). I retired after my last meet in 1987. Recently (a month ago) I've become interested in Masters competition. Plan to compete over Labor Day weekend (Sep. 2nd). This is a great site for throwers and coaches alike. I am a 22 year old hammer thrower, but unfortunately I have no coach at the moment. Went to the Senior Olympics in Orlando, Fl. to watch an old H.S. buddy compete in M55 100 meters. We were co-captians in track in H.S., I've decided to try and quailify for the 2001 Olympic Games in the jaevlin. I've purchased the turbo javelin and also a new sandvick javelin, but due to a broken toe, I've yet to make my first throw since 1962. But, my thinking is throwing is like swimming, once you learn how, you never forget. Tony Ames.

This is my senior year in High School. This summer has been the first time I have spent a lot of continuous time in the weight room. I wish to get the maximum result from my workouts during these next few months. How much of my work-out time should be throwing in the fall quarter? The winter quarter? I throw the discus and the shotput. My best event is the discus.

This is a good page. Im a 15 yr old shot put and discus thrower for CASS. Im shooting 12.90 in Shot put and 40.25 in discus which is good but I can't wait to try my newly learned techniques that I learned from this site in NSSSA. Maybe i'll throw 14 and 46.

I currently throw shot and disc at The University of Findlay. My personal records are 41' for shot and 131' for disc. Anyone feel free to e-mail me and give some advice about throwing.

I am currently going to college in Dickinson, ND USA. And am throwing the discus. I have already thrown 137' but my personal best in highschool was 146'4". I have been struggling lately during practice because we haven't had a meet in three weeks. And it's getting kind of monotonous. I am also throwing the shot put. I have just now tried the spin in the shot put and am having a hard time. My spin in the discus is good but it's hard to transfer it over to the shot put. I am a 15 year old freshman girl from a small hick town. I recently threw 91' 9'' in power position in discus. I am also throwing 30'5'' in shot putt. I have been throwing for 5 years and I have never found really good action pictures of someone throwing shot or discus. Could you look into that

I am starting my second season throwing shot and disc. I started in 8th grade, and broke the middle school discus record with a 76ft 10 in. throw. This year, as a freshman, I am on varsity, we have had one outdoor meet so far and I threw 78 ft 8 in. Which is pretty good for a freshman!! G'day. I'm a yr 10 student in Australia who currently holds the state record for javelin. I am placed 2nd in Australia for this event, 3rd for hammer and 4th for discus. My PB throw is 38.88m for javelin. I am not sure how many feet that is. I am 15 years old. Hi. I am a sophomore in high school and last year my PR in discus was 84ft and in the shot put was 25ft. Already this year after one meet my new PR in disucs is 95ft 1in and in shot put is 27.7 ( which I have gotten 30ft in practice ). I'm a junior in high school and I just finished my indoor season after coming off a knee injury. I won Conference championships and placed 3rd in the county with a best of 46'7". I want to say what a nice website you have an keep it up. also I was wondering if you have any advice for me? last year was my first year as a thrower and I was in 8th grade my farthist throw was 98.6 feet and i missed sectionals by one foot i believe i can be a 150-160 thrower by the time i graduate if you have any whieght trainning tips please let me know.
